We spent six days lazing about in Santa Cruz, enjoying the warm weather, the food, but most of all our luxurious retreat at Senses Boutique Hotel. Thanks to Esthefany, who helped us in any way possible, when we showed up with our dirty bicycles.

We donned Alemania caps and watched the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina at the Goethe Zentrum next door to our hotel. The beer was free and flowing. How could we not cheer for Germany?

All of us, except Jan, got hair cuts. Mine had become so long since my last cut in Oman that I just couldn’t stand it any longer in the Santa Cruz heat and had it drastically shortened.

We ate out every day, except breakfast which was a good buffet offered at the hotel and included with the price of our room. It was my goal to put on some weight and I succeeded. I gained three kilos in six days.

Beer: delicious in any shape.

Unfortunately, the bike parts we are having sent from the U.S. did not arrive but Camilo at Giant Bikes has agreed to ship them to their store in Cochabamba when they do arrive, hopefully in time for us to receive them before we leave from there. Time is of the essence as we will have to get out of Bolivia soon because our visa will expire.

Santa Cruz was a great break and a well-deserved rest for us. Now it’s on to Cochabamba.

  1. Cycled from Peace Arch to Bellingham on Thursday, very lovely , no dust- how does that compare ????? Nada but the beer was delicioso at the brew pub in the Old town upon arrival.
